Brow Lamination – all you need to know
by Lisa Young
Want to know how to keep your brows looking perfectly groomed and on point ?
Brow lamination is one of the most popular eyebrow treatments. This innovative treatment is a bit like a straightening treatment for the brows (in a way, similar to hair straightening but kinder to the skin). It provides a longer lasting alternative to soap brows, so perfect for holidays and the gym as you won’t get soap running down your face!
Rather like soap brows, lamination achieves a flawless, styled uplift effect to your brows without going through the discomfort of microblading or machine brow permanent make-up treatments. It’s also a great way to get more density to your brows. Pair it with a tint, and you have the perfect brow treatment.
Brow lamination can be combined with shaping, such as waxing and trimming and a brow tint. This then makes the eyebrows appear darker and creates perfectly styled brows.
So, how is brow lamination carried out ?
Consultation
The brow technician will carry out a full consultation to understand the look that you would like to achieve.
You can choose from perfectly groomed and sleek brows or a daring fluffy groomed look. The amazing thing about this treatment is that once your brows are straightened and smoothed, you can then smooth them over or brush them upright according to the look you want to achieve each day.
Perfect for everyday wear and glam up when you go out !
Treatment
The lamination process takes about 15 minutes. The brow technician starts by brushing your eyebrows in an upwards direction to get the perfect position for the brows. Sometimes a special water dissolvable brow glue is used to hold the brows whilst the new look is achieved.
A chemical solution is then applied to your brow hairs to straighten and relax them. Rather like a hair perm or straightening treatment, the chemical solution breaks down the bonds in your brow hair so they can be manipulated into a new position.
Once the lamination solution has dissolved the bonds and achieved the new look, the brow technician then applies another solution that “fixes” your new look in place.
Optionally, a tint can be applied and the brows shaped. In order to safeguard the integrity of the skin surrounding the brows we prefer to thread or tweeze the brow hair to remove any stray hairs outside the groomed shape.
Aftercare
To complete the service, a soothing, moisturising aftercare product is applied to your newly groomed brows. We recommend hydrating & moisturising brows each day with castor oil brushed through using a spoolie.
How long does Brow Lamination take ?
Allow about 40 to 50 minutes for the full brow lamination treatment including brow shaping & brow tinting.
Can anyone have lamination ?
Practically anyone with some brow hair will benefit from treatment. In fact, you will be pleasantly surprised how full your brows will look following a treatment. Brow lamination is the perfect treatment to make more of what natural brows you have.
Will I have the spiky groomed upwards lamination look ?
No, once the treatment is finished, even if they have been laminated upwards you can choose to tame them down a bit and groom your brows slightly over.
Do I need a patch test ?
Absolutely, as you wouldn’t want an allergic reaction. Professional technicians will always insist on patch testing at least 24 hours before the brow lamination treatment.
How long does brow lamination last ?
It will last for up to 6 weeks.
What aftercare is recommended for brow lamination ?
At Studio 8 Beauty, we recommend Castor Oil or a nourishing brow serum to maintain your brows post treatment. This ensures that the brows remain hydrated and it encourages growth. We like Beautiful Brows & Lashes castor oil or Brow Toxx Serum as they come in convenient handbag sizes and last for ages. Prices from £10.
