cucumber for a healthy dietSkin care is now looking to the freshest of ingredients straight from the market !

Nothing replaces the benefits of a healthy diet for our skin and body but when it comes to nourishment, even the healthiest diet leaves little for the skin after the body has taken its fair share of nutrients.

Did you know that the skin is the largest organ in the body yet it’s last in line for the nutrient handouts ?

Doesn’t seem fair does it ! After all, your skin does a grand job of keeping your body protected from bacteria and viruses. However, when it comes to distributing the nutrients consumed in a healthy diet, the other organs such the brain and heart, get first dibs.

It is well known that a healthy diet definitely has a positive impact on our health. Today’s skincare is taking it a step further by infusing the skin with the nutrients from these natural ingredients that are now contained in your skin care products.

The latest medical research has proven that our skin attains higher levels of antioxidants (Vitamin C and Vitamin E) when they are applied topically instead of ingested. This means that you could take a two pronged approach to double up your quota of nutrients by eating a healthy diet of fresh fruit and vegetables whilst also using skin care products in your daily routine that contain these beneficial ingredients.

Here are some examples of super nutrients and where they can be found in our favourite Dermalogica skin care products:

Papaya

Papaya is great for a fresh complexion. This mega food contains an enzyme called papain, which helps to slough off dead skin cells and speed up cell renewal. It’s therefore great as a mild chemical exfoliant.

Benefits: smoothes, refreshes, refines.

Cucumber

Cucumber is perfect for quenching your skins need for hydration and great for soothing the skin. It also contains Caffeic Acid, which is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient. It’s therefore perfect for all skins and especially for those seeking anti-aging ingredients or to soothe inflamed skin such as teen or sensitive skins.

So I’m sure your mothers all told you to eat up all your carrots as they will help you to see in the dark! And you used to think great, now I will be able to see to read my book without a torch after I’ve been told to turn the lights out! Well carrots are rich in Beta-Carotene, Vitamin A and antioxidant Vitamin E so absoluetely perfect as an anti-aging ingredient for skincare

Benefits: firms, nourishes, regenerates, improves elasticity.

Rooibos Tea

Rooibus (Red) Tea comes from the South African Redbush. Like Green tea, it is drunk as a caffeine free alternative to regular tea and contains antioxidants. It is 50 times stronger than Green Tea, which makes it an amazing super ingredient in your diet for combating the signs of aging by protecting the skin against the damage of free radicals.

Benefits: soothes, shields against environmental damage.
