Chrome Powder Nails and Autumn’s Hottest make up Trends

by Lisa Young – Salon Director

With a new season comes new trends and fashions. Fresh off the fashion week catwalks, we bring you everything you need to know …

Autumnal look Model with Chrome Powder Nails

Chrome nails, lacquered plum lips and gorgeously glowing skin

At Studio 8 Beauty, pretty much like everyone else at the moment, we are OBSESSED with the latest nail fashion… CHROME POWDER !

Social media is currently littered with videos of the (seemingly) effortless application of chrome powder. Our therapists couldn’t wait to get their hands on it. Of course there have always been various techniques that achieve a metallic effect, but nothing produces quite the same mirrored finish as the chrome powder. After a few unsuccessful attempts at creating mirror-like nails we finally ‘nailed the technique’ and have rolled out the use of this magical powder on our clients’ nails.

It’s safe to say they absolutely loved the effect… and so did we.

The finished look is so amazing that you’ll be wondering how on earth is it possible for us to make your nails look so utterly polished to perfection.

If Chrome nails is not for you however, you can always opt for autumnal shades of deep greys, rich reds or moody mulberry shades to compliment any outfit.

So how does it work ?

First of all, we prep your nails as we usually would for a gel manicure. We then apply your chosen base colour… we’ve found silver and pink give the most dazzling results. A pink base colour achieves a rose gold tone nail, which is right on trend this season! Next is the exciting (yet slightly messy) part. The chrome powder is applied to the nail and rubbed until you can see your reflection! To finish the treatment the nails are then sealed with a gel top coat, and away you go, the envy of your friends.

Hot off the catwalk- the boldest and most current makeup trends

Deep Berry Lips have made an impact on the cat walk with designers such as Bottega, Rodarte and Louis Vuitton all strutting powerful lip colours. The key focus this season is to keep your perfect pout as your main focus. Try accentuating and defining the contours of your lips with sultry shades of plum lipstick or lip gloss.

Matte finish lipstick has taken a step back and is now being replaced by a soft satin sheen or high shine swoop of gloss. Try some make up artistry and aim to make your lips look fuller by outlining the outer edges with a deeper shade and then highlighting the centre of your lips with a slightly lighter shade. The results ? It gives dimensions and the effect of a fuller pout.

Perfect for this look are Mii’s Passionate Lip Lover, in shade ‘Fortune’ or ‘Vamp’. Compliment this perfectly by outlining your lips for that 3D look with with a complimenting lip liner in Alluring also from Mii Cosmetics. Both products are available at Studio 8, so why not pop in and give them a try !

Effortlessly Elegant Make up with Radiance

In need of a healthy, natural glow to awaken a dull tired face ? Why not follow Kenzo, Burberry and Jenny Packham with soft, shimmery glitter to highlight the eyes. Simply apply to the inner and outer corners of the eye in order draw light towards them. This will result in a fresh and subtle look, without being over the top and overly noticeable.

Powders tend to give a more delicate look than other gel / liquid products, which can sometimes make the skin look sweaty and oily rather than soft and sparkling. So for the rest of the face, try highlighting the cheekbones and Cupid’s bow with a sweep of iridescent powder.

Complement the complexion to give a natural glow with peach toned blushers and give your skin a hint of life. Mii’s Mineral Natural Blush in shade ‘Arouse’ and Uplifting Cheek Colour in ‘Cheer’ will achieve this look in one subtle sweep.
